Finding A Place To Belong
We are thrilled that you are interested in joining this community of Christ followers at First Baptist Church Bevil Oaks. Connecting to a local church is a significant step in following Jesus Christ. We hope you join us in pursuing God’s mission for the world. To join FBC Bevil Oaks, a person must meet two important requirements.
1. A Follower of Jesus Christ
The church is not a building but a local body of faithful followers of Jesus Christ. To follow Jesus as Lord is the most important decision in any person's life. (See Romans 10:9)

2. Baptism by Immersion as a Believer
Baptism is an outward, physical declaration of an inward, spiritual change after one trusts in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. A believer identifies with Christ's burial and resurrection (Colossians 2:12). Baptism is not necessary for a person's salvation, but it is very important because Jesus commanded us to do it (Matthew 28:18-20). Our belief of baptism by immersion is based on the following:
- Jesus was baptized by immersion (Matthew 3:16).
- The Greek word baptize (baptizo) means to “immerse” under water.
- Accounts of baptism in the New Testament suggest that believers were immersed (John 3:23, Acts 8:38).
If you have questions regarding following Jesus, desire baptism, or are ready to join the church, please feel free to talk with the pastor before or after any of our Sunday worship gatherings. As well, do not hesitate to contact us during the week.
